But there’s also a huge info dump about the history of the world, which is confounding because it’s not told to us in a linear way. The beginning of The Crown of Gilded Bones is action-packed and interesting enough to keep my attention. A huge chunk of The Crown of Gilded Bones is useless filler and it feels like the author is just stretching the story at this point. I’m actually shocked that this series will have 6 books in total. Unfortunately, this book made me lose interest in Poppy and Casteel as a couple. And now, Poppy is trying to figure out who she really is and where she came from. Poppy’s true lineage has been a mystery since the ending of From Blood and Ash. It also means that Poppy has new powers that only started manifesting at the end of A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire. It turns out that Poppy has the blood of gods coursing through her veins, which means that the throne of Atlantia is hers by right. I would recommend re-reading the last couple of chapters of A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire to refresh your memory before starting The Crown of Gilded Bones.Ī Kingdom of Flesh and Fire ended with the most thrilling cliffhanger ever. This series must be read in order and the following review will contain spoilers from books 1 and 2 in the Blood and Ash series. The Crown of Gilded Bones is the third book in the Blood and Ash series and it cannot be read as a standalone.

I received an ARC from Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review.
